Thanks to the lovely effective staff at the Social security Administration in Columbus Georgia, I had no stress, when i called and explain the matter all I needed was both my ID's and my marriage certificate the same things the woman in Corning NY Office said wouldn't work.. sigh, sometimes i of to wonder...... I am just relating my story to say not everyone are criminals. And I hope no one has to go through the same nonsense. I gave them one
Went to apply for my social security number for the first time and was told to fill out the application and someone would call me because the person who deal with that part of the process was on lunch or something.... before I left the office the lady i spoke to had this suspicious look on her face simply because my phone number is a Florida number, and my address I gave was in Georgia where I live, even though i explained to her that i was only in Corning for two and a half weeks to help my sister with a family emergency so i decided to apply for it there.
Workers there are beyond rude!! Someone needs to get management on them about how they approach people. Unbelievable how they speak to you. Tone of voice and everything is enough to set someone off. Unacceptable, wouldn't recommend this office to anyone. This is pointed towards the woman that sits behind the window. Treat people with respect and do your job without an attitude or changing your tone of voice.
This is the best social security office in Corning. It's the only place I go in Corning for Social Security issues, and I'll bet it's the only place you're going to go for all things Social Security.
A few days later i received a call from them saying that they will not be able to process my application because my last name on both identification don't match, i explained to her that it is because I recently got married, and so my passport has my surname from birth and the other document from USCIS has my married name how hard is that to understand, I then asked her if she wants to see my marriage certificate and she told me that would not work, how silly is that?... that is supposed to be the proof of my name change. Instead she told me to get the front part of my doctor's report who is all the way in GA...Smh!! She found all kinds of excuse not to process my application but why, is it because i am black or because i am a foreigner??...I even mentioned the fact that i am a military spouse and i needed my SSN for many different reasons and she told me if I don't have the doctors report with the doctors signature showing where the ink is dried unto the paper then she can't help me and so she will send me a close out letter in the mail and I should wait until i get back to GA to apply for it, even though i needed it like yesterday to take care of a few things. Its been a month now and i haven't received any letter in the mail.
