Honestly, I never write reviews, but I certainly take advantage of them. I feel compelled to write one for Primp, though, after my brief visit to Corning and their salon this past January. My plan was to drive to Corning from DC, then relax and have someone else do my mess of hair. Initially, Primp did not have availability prior to the wedding I was going to attend, but Courtney called to try to make other arrangements which still did not work. Alas, I was resigned to bad hair for the event since I would have to do it myself. On the way up, Courtney called me a couple of times (first time I missed due to dropped service in the hills) to let me know that she had a cancellation and would I like to take the appointment. Timing worked out perfectly! When I arrived, I was impressed with the chic simplicity of the salon as well as Courtney's openness. She could have fell to my conservative suggestion for a style (which is all that I offer when I don't know a stylist), but she was forward thinking enough to offer other ideas which turned out to be what I wanted to suggest but was too afraid to ask and overwhelm. And the result was great, which I didn't doubt it would because I have enough experience with stylists to know when they take pride in their profession and every style they create. You know someone is good and loves what they do when they treat one-off visitors to the same quality of service as regulars. As icing on the cake, Courtney offered bars, restaurants, and sights to see in Corning during my stay. I left realizing that I should have left more than the 20% tip I gave her, especially since her service surpassed most stylists I've encountered in the many big cities I've lived in, and of course, the Corning rates are so much lower. So, I resolved to leave a glowing review for Primp and Courtney on several search engines :) May I also say that I'm a proud low-maintenance, non-fashionista who does not obsess over my hair but, therefore, deeply appreciates (and will pay for) great cuts and styles that are literally effortless to take care of. And since I treat myself so rarely, I am always appreciative of overwhelmingly great service. This is just the first time I'm giving back for it! Primp was a great (and lucky) find.
Beautiful space to get beautified!
For a former city dweller-turned-Corning resident, I was concerned about finding an über-stylish salon in this small town. Ha! I was wrong. Primp is a fantastic salon with modern style and competitive prices. The staff are beyond kind (and quite stylish themselves) and the service is the quality I'd expect when paying two or three times as much. The salon is modern, beautifully decorated and clean; very comfortable and accommodating.
My stylist, Courtney, went out of her way to assure that I was pleased with my cut. She was not the least bit pushy, trying to sell products (as you often find with small salons) and listened like a saint to my requests. I walked away with silky, styled perfection excited for my next appointment with her.
Primp is the ideal salon for anyone who wants a big city style at small town prices (without the big city attitude). The experience will leave you feeling happy, refreshed, and of course, stylish as ever. Five stars without hesitation!
